Breathing While Running

By JamesTerry at 2010-10-16 05:25:53
If you bolt from the starting line like a racehorse all that's going to happen is that you will you quickly be out of breath and won't last for very long. Why is breathing important to running? Of course, one might argue that they are already breathing while doing the aforementioned activity but there is a vast difference on how to breathe when doing something strenuous as opposed to merely lounging around. When running, breathing becomes labored and this can cause certain situations to crop up. These problems involve cramps, fatigue, and poor performance. To prevent cramps, it is advised to have deep calm breaths as opposed to rapid shallow bursts.

Cadence, on the other hand, is for more disciplined runners, mostly athletes or marathon-enthusiasts. It is basically steps per inhale and per exhale. It is easy and natural to get out of breath when you run. Oxygen is the fuel for your body to perform exercise. When you exercise, your muscles need oxygen and your body sends more oxygenated blood to the muscles, making the lungs work harder to suck in more oxygen from the air. How do you breathe well? Breathing properly is very easy. You can have any kind of breathing pattern that works for you. Breathing from your mouth is better than out of your nose because you take in more oxygen, while letting out carbon dioxide.

Listen to your breathing. If you find that you are breathing too hard, you are running too fast for your current health condition. Slow down and adjust your running to your comfort level. You can practice by slowing down your breathing as you run at a slower pace. Exercise is the core element of any weight loss regime. While you may diet all you want and starve yourself, it is exercise which will finally help shed pounds. Running is extremely tough for obese men and women. This is because most of them become breathless before long and give up soon. This is why it is extremely important to pay attention to breathing techniques while running. This will prevent you from becoming breathless and give you enough stamina to run longer.

Running is an all around great activity to engage in regularly. On the one hand, it's a great way to build and maintain your physical health. If you're overweight it can help you lost excess body fat. If you're out of shape, it can help build up your strength and endurance. Contemplating clearly can be a little harder. It's way to easy to simple get distracted and stress out about your day while out running, it's much harder to maintain a clear mind and calmly contemplate things that are important to you while you're out there. It's the same as static and dynamic relaxation protocols. If you really want to relax a muscle, it helps to tax it very heavily immediately before relaxing or stretching it. The more you contract the muscle, the more it will relax when you let go. The same is true for concentrating and contemplating.

Why would anyone want to pay more attention to how they feel when they run, when running puts tremendous stress on the body? Ask and answered. So how do you meditate while running? Focus on your breathing. Listen to your foot strikes and get into a rhythm. I particularly like looking at my surroundings. I try to identify minute details, things that I wasn't aware of before. Sometimes it helps starting in a non-meditative state for a few minutes, then transition into a meditative state.
