Arm Exercises with Free Weights

By JamesTerry at 2010-10-16 05:31:52
One of my favorite exercises to do for the back is the dead lift. Now, your thinking that the dead lift is a leg exercise, and it is, but it works many other muscles as well, your back being one of them. A kettlebell is a device from Russia and looks like a cannonball with a handle on it. Typically men use a 35 pounder and women use a 25 pounder or less. Because of its design it is ideal for swinging and works your entire body at the same time. If you want to gain weight working out with free weights is one of the best ways to do it because muscle weighs more than fat. But, like anything, you need to know how to go about doing it.

What do you believe would be best for you, machines or free weights? This is an extremely interesting question because many people are under the misguided impression that buying a machine and setting up your own mini home gym will work wonders for you. Free weights will allow you to perform a wide range of exercises when compared to a machine, which is mostly one dimensional. For example, the treadmill or the stepper; each of these machines will only allow you to perform one fixed exercise. On the other hand, you can combine your weights with a bench or Swiss ball to vary the exercises.

Many of the multi machines are touted as having a range of excellent features. When you actually buy the machine you find that you are not able to use half of them. Either you are too short or too tall for the machine despite the adjustable arms and seat. The reason is the range on these machines is rather impractically limited. Fair enough, you could pay out hundreds of dollars for a superior set, but as I have mentioned a few times, what's the point in spending heaps of money on something which you may not enjoy?

The trouble with working like this is when you are exercising with dumbbells and doing a routine which is conventionally done using a barbell, both of your arms work separately, and so you may not be working both arms equally as hard. In contrast, through a barbell, both arms must work in sync. Ask for advice on how to correctly execute the exercises, and make certain that you are holding your body in the right position. Carrying out exercises incorrectly could cause injuries.

Intimidated by gyms her whole life, Sarah knew having her own home gym would be the key to her finally getting into shape. She had heard that machines were safer than free weights. Most machines are designed as one-dimensional. Even the most extensive multi-unit machines will allow exercisers to perform only a limited number of movements in a restricted range of motion. Women who lose weight develop something known as "batwings" on the under arm. You know - those flabby patches of skin that do not seem to stop moving when your arm does. There are arm exercises for women that are specially designed to help with this problem.
