The Difference Between a Hot Tub and a Portable Spa

By JamesTerry at 2010-10-06 06:58:42
Perhaps you may be wondering what the difference between a hot tub and portable spa is. While the terms hot tub and spa once meant different things, the two terms have become somewhat interchangeable. Despite the name, many spas are not really all that portable. Even without water, most portables still weigh several thousand pounds, and cannot easily be moved single-handedly. Since a few select spa owners opt to enclose their spas within a built in deck or gazebo, this makes portables even less portable and difficult to move or remove, if at all.

Purchasing a portable hot tub spa is one of the best things to do for your home. It is the most comfortable alternative to a fixed hot tub, hot pool, or spa. This type of tub costs less than a general hot tub. The major difference between a hot tub and a spa is the construction other than this everything is quite minimal in both. Notably, hot tub spa is made up of plastic or some heavy material and equipped with different jets that sooth the aching muscles and organs where as in hot tub the construction is generally made up of wood including cedar or redwood.

Many homeowners find themselves soaked when it comes to shopping for a hot tub. However, a smart and knowledgeable spa purchase can be the difference between experiencing endless relaxation and hassle-free enjoyment and owning a burdensome, resource-draining machine that ends up costing more to operate and maintain than ever anticipated. One size doesn't always fit all. Be sure to consider the primary purpose of your new hot tub and ask important questions. Is it for entertaining, family fun, relaxation? All of these? Depending on what it will be used for, choose a size that fits your lifestyle.

Other differences might be in the mechanisms for filling and draining water as well as in the maintenance of water temperature but with advances in technology, even the wooden hot tubs can be modernized like the fiberglass spas. Besides, even when the tub is small, you can still enjoy the benefits of a home spa therapy treatment. You can de-stress your mind and body from the pressures of living a modern lifestyle especially as the warm water encourages relaxation and meditation.

Spas are resorts or health centers for therapeutic baths and treatment. Resorts are constructed near mineral springs so that members can benefit from mineral water. Stylish health resorts are also called as spas. In some instances the treatments are carried out through hot tubs. The spa tubs are fitted with a purification system. It ensures the water entering the tub is free of all contaminants. It is easy to clean these tubs and at times the manufacturers offer free cleaning service.

There should be no bubbles, cracks or any flaw on the shell of the hot tub. It should be resistant to UV rays and any kind of abrupt changes in temperature. The four person tubs should be more thoroughly checked for proper support as well as insulation. The cartridge type filters are commonly used which require hosing off after every 3 to 4 weeks. Consider both the location of spa and the filter for the convenience of cleaning. The noise range of the pumps should be checked so that it does not become a bothering element later.
